About Us

Sky Developments specialise in low and zero carbon residential, commercial and Public sector construction projects using modern methods of construction (MMC).

The company was created by Stephen McCready and Alan Johnston in 2003, originally as a residential development company, providing traditionally built homes for the Northern Irish housing market. During these initial years both of the directors were unfenced heavily by their combined interest in new technologies and innovative building methods.

Sky's directors saw a niche in the Irish housing market for building solutions with reduced carbon emissions and improved insulation properties. Considerable time, effort and investment into emerging building technologies provided them with the expertise to construct the springboard for Sky's low carbon ethos at The Green House, Northern Ireland's first carbon zero home, built by Sky at The Esplanade in Holywood.

This property, the first of it's type in the province acted as a test bed for the innovative combinations of renewable energy sources, high insulation technologies and complimentary modern methods of construction that Sky would roll out to the common housing market.

Since the official launch of this exciting prototype building in Holywood Sky have undertaken several further energy efficient building projects using low carbon building methods in the residential and public sector housing sectors. Sky have provided Northern Ireland's first EPC B rated homes for sale in the residential market at Willis Green, Finaghy Road, Belfast and are also the builders of Northern Ireland's first affordable housing project to meet 'code for sustainable homes' level 3 in association with Connswater Housing Association on the Donaghadee Road in Newtownards.

These innovations in building technologies have earned Sky Developments a prestigious Northern Ireland Housing Executive Home Energy Award, a shortlisting for a Royal Town Planning Association Award and a commendation in the Belfast Telegraph Northern Ireland Business Awards sponsored by BMI.
