Today, Sky Developments launched the first development of affordable homes in the province to be built using SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) and MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) to achieve the country’s highest level of energy efficiency for affordable housing.
This landmark development of 40 apartments on the Donaghadee Road, Newtownards, is being built by Sky Developments for Connswater Homes.
Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today officially cut the first sod at the site with Jim Shannon MLA and representatives of the NIHE and Connswater Homes.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said: "I am delighted to see construction of this new scheme underway. The delivery of high quality energy efficient and sustainable social housing is a key priority for my Department.
Connswater Homes and Sky Developments are to be congratulated for planning such an innovative, flagship development" Jim Shannon MLA commented: "Sky Developments don't just strive to meet current targets, they aim to exceed all of today's efficiency benchmarks and provide lasting solutions for future generations."
After the official groundbreaking ceremony Minister Ritchie & Alderman Shannon attended a lunch at Movilla High School with Stephen McCready and Alan Johnston of Sky Developments and their guests including board members and staff from the school. To complete a successful day Sky made a presentation of £1000 to fund the school's own green house project.
